McBride Charles Ryan (MCR) present South Space. A reflection on the built environment, culture and community; South of the river.
An exhibition of two parts –
A spatial excavation of the historical archives, uncovering the contribution of a group of Architects who practiced in the South-East Melbourne suburbs throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
+ A celebration of 15 Architecture practices (mostly) from the South, practicing today – each presenting a seminal work that refects their design ethos and ecology of practice.
Together, a diptych – two parts, positioned adjacent, providing a contextual framework for one another. They refect on, critique and celebrate the Architecture and Architects of the South. We are humbled to practice and exhibit here, south of the Birrarung and wish to pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of this land, the Wurundjeri and Bunurong People. We acknowledge the long history of Aboriginal connection to creative and spatial practice.
